Choose your rope colour
Polished chrome hangs silver ends; gold and black posts both hang gold. The two are never mixed. Three silver-end ropes exist for polished chrome — red, navy and black.

Why choose the polished chrome post
Three colours rather than nine, and there is nothing to apologise for in that: it is precisely why the assembly always lands right. The silver end cap disappears into the chrome post, so the rope is the only colour present in the object. On a gold post there are always two metals to reconcile; here there is one.
It is also the post that holds up best in front of a screen. At a launch or a plenary where the main light comes off an LED wall or a projector, gold goes dull and takes on the colour of whatever is being shown. Chrome stays neutral under any colour temperature, because all it does is return what is sent at it.
The three ropes are not interchangeable in use. Red goes with an arrival and a red carpet runner without any discussion. Navy is the quiet corporate choice, formal without being severe, and it sits well beside a blue identity. Black withdraws completely and leaves the post alone in the picture.
