What you’re renting

The post is weighted and a belt cassette sits in its head. Pull the belt across, clip it to the next post, and the lane exists. The head is a four-way top — all four faces accept a belt — so straight runs, right-angle corners, T-junctions and closed boxes all come out of the same post, with no corner part to order. Each belt draws a full 8 ft and winds back on a governed brake instead of snapping, then stows flush in the head.

No tools, seconds per post, and nothing that marks a floor — which is why the same post turns up in a hotel ballroom, on a conference level, on a festival site and outside a main entrance without anyone giving it a second thought.

Three belt colours exist — black, blue and red — and the post makes no difference to which one you can have. Black is the standing belt and carries most layouts. The other two are genuine options rather than a given: name the colour on your enquiry and availability for your dates is confirmed on the quote.

Our stanchions in action

Belt stanchions on real event builds.

Belt or rope — which suits the job?

Both will hold a queue. What separates them is how that queue is meant to read:

The belt stanchion goes up quickest and redraws quickest, and it is the safer choice when the line is dense — the belt crosses the gap flat, leaving nothing at ankle height. Registration counters, check-in, conference floors, trade show aisles, activations, festival entrances: anywhere the traffic is heavy and the shape keeps changing.

The rope stanchion is the dressed version of it — a weighted post with velvet strung between two. It belongs at a gala, an award night, a wedding entrance, or anywhere the arrival itself ends up in the photographs.

After the dressed version? Those are rope stanchions →. Laying a route on the floor as well? Add carpet runners →.

Where belt stanchions are used

The belt stanchion is the equipment nobody photographs and every event needs. Here is where it ends up in Montreal and across Quebec:

  • Brand activations and product launches

Pop-up stands, launch evenings, sampling lanes, photo corners — the drawn route is what makes a temporary build look intended.

  • Festivals, concerts and live shows

Entry lanes, box office and ticket collection, bar queues, and keeping the public clear of backstage and artist routes.

  • Corporate events and conferences

Registration and check-in, badge collection, breakout room doors, and delegates kept away from staging and cable runs.

  • Galas and award nights

Arrivals, the photo wall, flow towards the tables and VIP lanes on a black-tie evening.

  • Film and TV shoots

Holding areas, background talent routing and the public kept out of frame — and quick to strike between setups.

  • Sporting events and trade shows

Gate entry, accreditation, queues at the stands and aisle management across a show floor.

Pricing

Belt stanchions are quoted on the number of posts your lane takes and how long you keep them. Send the shape of the queue with your dates and the figure comes back itemised, delivery and pickup already inside it.

No fixed total can be published, because six posts at a boardroom door and a switchback for two thousand delegates are simply not the same order. You get back a single figure, itemised line by line, that covers the whole of what you asked for.

Why rent from Stanchions Montreal

  • Custom orders. A mixed run, an unusual shape, a lane that has to route around something — we build the order to the job rather than to a package.

  • Clean, matched equipment. Posts are checked and cleaned between hires, so a long run reads as one line — nothing scuffed, nothing that fails to match.

  • Delivery, setup and pickup available. Anywhere in the province, laid out to your plan if you want that, and collected once the event comes down — so the lifting never lands on your team.

  • Itemised quotes. Corporate and agency work is the bulk of what we do, and the quote is written the way those clients need it — itemised, in writing, one figure.

How it works

  1. Request a quote.

Dates, quantities and the event address. Only the email field is required. No idea on the count? Describe the space instead.

  2. We confirm and deliver.

The details get confirmed, the order goes out to your venue, and our crew sets the layout if that is what you want.

  3. We collect afterwards.

Once the event is over we come back for the equipment. Nothing to pack down, nothing to return.

Delivery across Quebec

Belt stanchions go out from Montreal across the whole province — Laval, Longueuil, Brossard and Terrebonne close to home, then north to Saint-Jérôme and Repentigny, along the river to Trois-Rivières, Quebec City and Lévis, and south to Sherbrooke and Granby in the Eastern Townships.

FAQ

How much does it cost to rent belt stanchions in Montreal?

We publish no rate card, because a run of six posts at a boardroom door and a switchback for a two-thousand-delegate registration are not the same order. Send the dates, the products and quantities, and the event address, and you get a single itemised figure covering everything you asked for — delivery, setup and pickup available, each on its own line, with nothing added afterwards.

How many belt stanchions will my lane take?

Set the posts about 6 ft apart, walk the route the queue has to follow, and count. Posts stand at both ends of every span, so n posts give you n − 1 spans — count the spans, then add one. Add a post for each turn and two or three spare.

What spacing should I plan between posts?

The belt draws 8 ft, but 6 ft between posts is the number to plan with. That leaves a little slack in the belt, which holds the queue steadier and looks better than a belt stretched dead straight.

Should I take belt or rope?

Belt goes up quicker, redraws quicker and stays safer in a dense queue, because nothing sits at ankle height. Rope is what you take when the arrival is going to be photographed and the hardware has to look like part of the room. The rope stanchions → page covers that side.

Do they work outdoors?

Yes, on flat and firm ground. Where a site is exposed to wind or the surface is uneven, we go through the layout with you, or point you at crowd control barriers → if the job really calls for something heavier.

Which post — black or polished chrome?

Black disappears and suits almost anything. Polished chrome is the dressier of the two and goes mostly to galas, award nights and VIP receptions. Both carry a black belt and both are quoted the same way, so the question is only about how the room should read.

Do you deliver the posts and set the run out?

Yes. Delivery covers the whole province and pickup afterwards is part of it rather than a second charge; setup and teardown stay optional.
